Two men have been arrested after allegedly breaking into and stealing medals and prizes from the home of Margaret Court, one of Australia’s biggest and most controversial tennis stars. At around 8 pm on January 26, the thieves broke into the front door and searched the property.
They allegedly stole “a number of items”, such as prizes, jewelry and medals from Court’s career. Police said several items were recovered from nearby woods and gardens. Perth detectives have since charged two men in relation to the incident.
Court is considered one of the all-time greats in tennis, having won 24 Grand Slam titles. She retired in 1997 and has since made headlines for her controversial views on same-sex marriage.
His stance against gay marriage has upset a more progressive wing of the sport that is calling for Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne to be renamed.
