Grey’s Anatomy: Ellen Pompeo Discusses Whether the Series Will Continue Without Her

Ellen Pompeo returns to talk about leaving Grey’s Anatomy, this time reflecting on whether the series could go on without her. The medical drama goes into its 19th season, with the presence of the titular character confirmed, even after the actress has expressed her desire for the series to end. On the air since 2005, the production follows a group of medical professionals and their daily lives facing the most diverse challenges.

In an interview with ET Onlinethe Meredith Gray interpreter assesses whether the show could go on without her, revealing that reinventing Grey’s Anatomy right now is a challenge.

Shonda and I, I think—let’s see, let’s see. Trying to continually reinvent the series is the challenge right now.”, she reveals. “And listen, the show speaks to a lot of people, and young people love the show. It has inspired so many generations of healthcare professionals, so I think for younger people it’s really good content and we’re going to try to keep it for the young, not necessarily with me, but keep going beyond me… or not”.

The season finale of the current season also marks the 400th episode of the series. Pompeo commented on the production’s important milestone, saying that the end of Year 18 promises exciting moments. Throughout this journey, Meredith has remained a central focus of the show, chronicling the character’s trajectory from intern to chief of general surgery.

Previously, the actress has already expressed her wish for the series to end, since he believes there are no more stories to be told with your character. However, the renewal of production was announced shortly after, with Pompeo’s presence confirmed, showing that the will of his protagonist would not yet be complied with.
