Idina Menzel says what she would need to participate in the ‘Wicked’ movie

The actress who starred in the musical Wicked in its original montage, Idina Menzel, states that she would participate in the film adaptation. The production, which has been promised for a long time, was finally announced last year, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in the central roles. Elsa’s interpreter in Frozen was responsible for bringing the protagonist Elphaba to life on the Broadway stage in 2002.

Although the actress has not been cast to reprise her role in the theatrical version of the spin-off of The Wizard of Oz, she seems to be willing to participate in the production in some way. When asked about the subject in an interview with the peoplethe actress and singer revealed that she would be open to acting in the film.

If they asked me to do this at 51, I would say of course“, she said. “Just put some Vaseline on the lens, put some green makeup on me, use some CGI and I’ll look beautiful… But no, it’s okay. This ship has already sailed“.

Though Menzel spoke about the matter in jest, she assured that she believes the film is in good hands with the actresses chosen for the roles, saying that Erivo and Grande, who will play Elphaba and Glinda respectively, are her close friends.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In A Neighborhood of New York), the adaptation will be divided into two parts, which should reach the public in 2024 and 2025. Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda in the original production alongside Idina, has also declared that she is interested in a participation, having herself launched an idea for the producers.

The Broadway production follows the story of the unlikely friendship between the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch – before they achieved those titles – in a prequel to The Wizard of Oz based on the 1995 book by Gregory Maguire. Now, after long years of waiting by fans, a film adaptation of the musical is finally getting off the ground.

Wicked is due to reach the public at the end of 2024, with its second part only for 2025.
