Roman Eremin almost ended his career, and now he is defeating opponents with a huge advantage.
All Russian biathletes are forced to miss the World Cup and other international competitions. Now our athletes compete only in the Russian Cup and the Commonwealth Cup. Belarusian athletes also perform at the latter. It was at these competitions that the most unexpected victory of recent times took place.
The former foreign athlete created a sensation by finishing with the Russian flag.
“Prospects are very good”
25-year-old biathlete Roman Eremin played for the Kazakhstan team two years ago and was thinking about ending his career. Paradoxically, an unfortunate incident helped reset the career. Roman and three other athletes were suspended for violating the regime. True, the history of disqualification does not receive confirmation from the current coach of the athlete Yuri Kaminsky.
– Roma wanted to finish biathlon two years ago, there was a muddy story in Kazakhstan, it is still not clear who is to blame. I became interested in it myself, or rather, it was recommended to me by my coach friends from Kazakhstan. He has very good prospects, there is time and potential for growth, ”RIA Novosti Sport quotes the words of the coach.
As a result, Roman stopped biathlon for a while and moved to Russia, where he did not plan to continue his career. But love for biathlon prevailed, and he received an invitation to run for the Novosibirsk Region team, in which he began to travel through the stages of the Cups of Russia and the Commonwealth. Roman climbed onto the podium several times and generally has a strong season. If it were not for the removal of our team from international competitions, he could easily qualify for the IBU Cup.
“It worked automatically”
Until recently, there were no victories in the athlete’s asset. But Eremin corrected this at the Commonwealth Cup stage in Ryazan. In the mass start, Roman was not considered one of the main contenders for victory, but the biathlete had a great race. He showed perfect shooting at four firing lines and felt great at a distance.
As a result, Eremin finished the race in splendid isolation, with a solid advantage over Vasily Tomshin. Roman also overcame the last meters of the distance with the Russian flag in his hands, proudly waving it at the finish line.
– The finish with the flag was quite a funny moment, because I am not a native of Russia. I didn’t really think about whether to take or not to take the flag. It worked out automatically. I no longer have Kazakhstani citizenship, I have been living in Russia for two years, so I don’t think that Kazakhstan will be offended by me,” the athlete said after the finish.
Biathletes have a New Year’s holiday ahead, after which the second half of the season will begin. If Eremin continues in the same spirit, then many recognized leaders of the Russian team will have to make room at the top of the overall standings.
